December 1st - Christmas Tree Day
Christmas is a time for family traditions. Some Christmas traditions are almost universal; turkey for dinner, mince pies, singing Christmas carols. Other traditions are exclusive to individual families.
We have two firm traditions at our house:
1. Grumpy Bear must be on display
2. The Christmas Tree goes up on December 1st
After that it's a 'free-for-all, do as you like, let's try this' sort of Christmas. I try to decorate the house in a different theme every year. This year the theme is 'Silver and Gold'.
As you can see, anything goes as long as it's silver or gold!
I started out wanting to use a heart motif..
But then I remembered I had some lovely new birds, so they had to go on.
And I had a couple of gold swans, so they made their way to the tree.
Oh and some rustic stars, stars are very traditional!
And it ended up looking like this....
I have no doubt there will be more decorations added to the tree. I tend to 'tinker' with the Christmas tree all through the holiday season. We will find new ornaments to purchase and I will find a gap that needs filling or some such nonsense. But at least it's up and on December 1st!

ReplyDeleteHappy almost Holidays! I am so excited about Christmas and I know you are too! The days leading up to Christmas are my favourite. Like you, it's the decorating, baking and preparation I love most. I hope you have a joyful holiday season. : )
DeleteWhat a fabulous tree, you've decorated it beautifully. I think I like the thought of having a tree up on 1 December, then you have plenty of time to enjoy it. Ours always went up on Christmas eve when I was young and although I generally put one up a few days earlier, it would be quite nice to enjoy it for longer. But I would never be that organised. In fact we won't have one at all this year as we are away.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind compliments. I've had a few Christmas seasons without a Christmas tree and it was just strange! I think that's why I like to decorate early. I am making up for lost time. I hope you enjoy your holidays and your travels. : )
DeleteGrumpy bear is a hero - and I think he expresses many peoples feelings about christmas (not mine!)
ReplyDeleteWhen I lived in the States I had a huge Christmas wreath that had 'Bah Humbug' across the top and a Scrooge figure in the middle. It was one of my favourite Christmas decorations. Grumpy Bear is taking up where Scrooge left off. ; )

ReplyDeleteActually, it was a B and Q special bought about 10 years ago! It's is starting to drop it's needles just like a real tree. ; )

ReplyDeleteYour comment made me snort with laughter. I think we all have 'Grumpy Bear' moments over the holidays. I enjoy the run up to Christmas more than the actual day. I usually go 'Grumpy Bear' in the middle of cooking Christmas lunch when things start to get a bit frantic. : )
