EGGS!
Arthur, my allotment friend, is away for a day or two so he asked me if I would like to feed the chickens. Of course, I said YES!
Before going to feed the girls, I made some muffins for my breakfast. It's cold and snowing here so I needed something warm and filling.
While chatting to Celia, ace hen keeper and talented artist, I mentioned my muffins. Celia said the hens would love them for breakfast, too. So I pulled on my wellies, packed a couple of muffins and made my way to the allotment.
And these are what the chickens gave me in exchange for a couple of muffins and a few chicken pellets. These beautiful eggs were so fresh they were still WARM! Amazing.
Thanks to Celia for her excellent advice. Please take a moment to look at her lovely work. Just click on the link below:

What a very special way of "Outdoor Ornithology"!
ReplyDeleteMy favourite kind of Ornithology, the kind you can eat! : )
DeleteThere is absolutely no way I am telling my girls that you are feeding your wards FRESHLY BAKED MUFFINS. They may go on strike!
ReplyDeleteIsn't a warm egg just the most amazing thing?
I never knew how incredible a warm egg could be...sounds pretty crazy but it's true! As for the fresh baked breakfast, that was a one off. We will be back on the toast tomorrow. : ) Wonder if chickens prefer butter or jam?
DeleteHow lovely! Did they enjoy the muffins?
ReplyDeleteThey enjoyed them so much that they gave me three more eggs when I fed them their supper! : ) Mind you, I don't think hens are picky eaters.
DeleteOur hens haven't laid for a while, maybe I should start baking :) x
ReplyDeleteThese girls are wonderful. I got 11 eggs yesterday and 8 this morning. I think there are only 11 hens! I can understand why keeping chickens is so popular. : )
DeleteIt is one of my life goals to have a garden big enough to keep some chickens - I love them, the way they strut about to the noises they make!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I was most impressed with these girls. In two days they provided me with 23 eggs and they are so friendly and beautiful. I understand why so many people are devoted to their hens. I hope you attain your goal, I know you would really enjoy them.
