South Devon Steam Railway- A Trip Back in Time
The South Devon Railway runs from Buckfastleigh to the ancient town of Totnes and you travel by steam train in historic, Victorian, rolling stock! The tracks were first laid in 1872 following the beautiful River Dart.
It's hard not to imagine yourself going back in time to the beginning of rail travel as you chug beside the river and through the rolling hills of the Dart Valley.
The South Devon Railway host special events through out the year. You can even see Santa by Steam! The surrounding area has lots of interesting places to visit including Buckfastleigh Abbey, home to the Benedictine Monks, and an Otter Sanctuary and Butterfly Farm.
My favourite thing to do is chug down to Totnes and take afternoon tea in one of the traditional tea shops then chug back to the old Station. So when we need a break from modern life, we just take a little trip back in time and travel on the South Devon Railway.
This HAS to be on our list of places to see! Looks beautiful and what fun to travel the countryside by rail.
