Chocolate Melting Moments
What was the first biscuit/cookie you remember baking? If you are British it might have been a batch of Melting Moments.
These are great biscuits/cookies to make with children. They contain just a few store cupboard ingredients, are easy to mix and they have the all important 'swirl the dough ball in the oats' component. Here are the ingredients you will need to make a batch of Chocolate Melting Moments:
4 ounces (115 grams) butter - room temperature
3 ounces (85 grams) sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
5 ounces (140 grams) self-rising flour
7-10 Tablespoons of porridge oats
Cream the butter and sugar together until the mixture is fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla, beat until well incorporated. Sift the flour and cocoa powder into the creamed mixture and stir until you have a smooth dough.
Pour some oats into a small bowl. Using a small scoop or a teaspoon, form small balls of dough, place them into the oats....one at a time!
Roll the dough in the oats until it is completely covered. I have developed a swirling technique but it may be safer for children to just use the traditional dough rolling method.
Place the oat covered dough balls on a lined baking sheet, leaving space for the dough to spread. Gently press down the dough to make nice, round cookie shapes. Bake for about 12-15 minutes at 180C/350F.
Cool the biscuits on a wire rack and serve with a steaming cup of tea or a cold glass of milk. Store the Chocolate Melting Moments in an airtight container, IF there are any left!
I also have a recipe called Melting Moments but they are not at all like yours. I will get a post up (hopefully sooner rather than later) with the recipe. I KNOW you will love them! A childhood favorite of mine!
