Volcano Cake

They always say never drive drunk.  My new motto is 'Never bake when distracted'.   I have no idea what I was thinking about when I made this cake.  I did everything wrong!

I put the flour in the batter at the wrong time.  I used the wrong size pan.  I am not sure if I pre-heated the oven so it had to be baked for ages. And this is what happened.

I baked a volcano!  I feel very lucky it turned into a cake at all.

I've done some serious trimming, made some decadent frosting, and crossed my fingers hoping that it will all be fine in the end.  I'll keep you posted.

  4. I am sure it tasted just fine in the end. I had an episode of my own last weekend - hurry to bake a Victoria Sponge cake on the Sunday morning for impending house guests and …. my blaming scale goes on the blink - batteries flat. So I had put in the 4 eggs & had to just guess the flour & the sugar quantities & add a little more until it looked like the right consistency … it came out OK - not as feather light but OK & it all went quickly!!

    1. My paternal grandmother never used recipes and could bake the most beautiful cakes, pies and scones. I think we modern cooks are too insecure to trust our own judgement and abilities. Well done you for having the confidence to 'wing it'!
