Charity Shopping
Once upon a time we thought of charity shops as places to TAKE good quality, unwanted things to clear space for more things. It was a way of getting rid of foolish purchases or unwanted gifts without the guilt of throwing perfectly good items away.
Second hand things were often considered to be second class. One wouldn't buy something used if you could purchase the same item new....not if one could afford new.
Fortunately, times have changed. Everyone goes charity shopping now. Those of us who like to think of ourselves as 'green' do it. Folks who like to save money do it. Even POSH people do it!
Today I did it. I bought four perfect stoneware cups and saucers for £6.50! I think they are lovely. Now, who wants a cup of tea?

DeleteWhat a find! Our local charity shops are stuffed with china rabbits and endless grubby paperbacks.
ReplyDeleteWell, this charity shop is at the village in the 'NICE' part of town near the Avenues. You can find some nice junk along with the tatty bits. But you have to be fast and ruthless. : )

DeleteWhat a lovely colour! I was having a good rummage in some charity shops this afternoon with my daughter, but we didn't find anything as nice as your cups!
ReplyDeleteIt was the colour that caught my eye. I had seen these a week or so ago and talked myself out of buying them. When I saw them today I jumped at the opportunity to get them. I couldn't believe they were still in the shop. : )

DeleteWhat a great find!! When I finally get to stock up my own kitchen (currently living with fil) I always said I was going to go thrifting! My husband thinks I'm kidding. I already have a jug and cup set i'm taking with me, that is his dads, it is so cool! I love shiny new things, but I also love well kept old things too!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a great idea. If you want to live in a cookie cutter house then shop the High Street. If you want your home to reflect YOUR taste, then mixing old and new is the way to go! I have Andy's granny's cake stand and we use it for Sunday tea. It's lovely to have 'family' pieces.
DeleteGreat purchase there! I often think that if I were starting out again setting up home, I could do it all from charity shops and enjoy every minute! These days though, I often take things in there, and come out with even more! xCathy
ReplyDeleteWe have an unofficial rule, you must take a bag of goodies into the charity shop before you bring something out of the charity shop. This rule is frequently broken! ; )
