Tricks of the Trade or Painting Myself into a Corner

I was standing in the kitchen, painting a big piece of cardboard black, when I thought I should write about this very strange behaviour on the blog.

It even looks mad to me, but it's all about blogging and taking photos.  I am making a photographic backdrop.  When I started this blog, I just wanted to share recipes and photos with my family back in the States.  Now I am bitten by the blogging bug!

I've bought a new camera, am learning how to use it, slowly.  And now find that I want to make my photos look more artistic.  Arty-Farty some would say. So I am experimenting with backdrops, like this old piece of packing crate.

I love the texture!  The best part is, none of these things cost much. Almost anything can be used as a backdrop.  I am now looking for something white, like a big piece of white packing foam.

Now comes the fun part, taking photos to see what effect the colour of the background has on the photos.   Here is a collection of things I had in my fridge photographed on the rustic wooden background.

And here are the same items photographed on the black cardboard backdrop. You can see, the paint isn't even dry yet!  So, if you find me in the kitchen painting a large piece of cardboard, it's all about blogging and photography!

  2. Hee! Hee! Snap! I'm always on the look out for rustic looking backdrops. I love your packing crate. I bought two pieces of white foam board from the local craft shop which I have found very useful and I spend hours pouring over photographs on other people's blogs!

  3. It's apparent how smitten by blogging you are - your blog is fabulous and especially your pictures. I receive your posts in my Inbox every evening and really look forward to them. Truly. I've not been very good about popping back over here to your blog to say so, but you're doing a fab job. Love this idea about backdrops. x
