Reconstructed Richard

Yesterday it was confirmed that the skeleton found in a Leicester card park was the remains of King Richard III.  Now a reconstruction of King Richard's face has been revealed.

And a rather attractive face it is, too.  Richard was only 32 at the time of his death.

Here is the reconstructed Richard and his 'nephew', whose DNA was used to confirm the identity of Richard's bones.  Do you see a family resemblance?

Compare the reconstructed Richard to this portrait and can see how art can be used to manipulate the public's perception of a monarch.

I can't help but wonder if the modern image of Richard is as flawed as the painted portrait.  We will never know exactly how Richard looked but it's fascinating watching history come to life.

  2. Hmmm, I agree that it's difficult to know whether we put our own interpretation on these reconstructions. I don't think the modern day descendant looks anything like him and that is entirely understandable. It's amazing what they can find out, but I do think this whole thing has been rather over hyped.

    1. I am such a history freak that digging up a long lost king is like a birthday present! I'd love to participate in an archaeological dig but I don't like getting that messy! ; )
