Le Chat Noir

I love the art work used on posters in the late 1800's.  Think of Touslouse-Lautrec's graphic designs for the Moulin Rouge and you know the genre I am talking about.   Since our little furry friend has come to live with us I have a new favorite poster.... Le Chat Noir!

Le Chat Noir was a 19th century night club in the Montmartre district of Paris.  Frequented by the likes of Picasso, it was probably the first modern cabaret- part artist salon... part drunken, rowdy music hall.    The doormen were dressed in Swiss Guard uniforms, all red and gold.  It sounds like madness to me, but that is what Paris was at that time.  No wonder it produced such wonderful art.  But I digress....

Sometimes I see that Le Chat Noir poster come to life, in the garden, on a flowerpot.

Often I see Le Chat Noir in the kitchen, at his supper bowl.  It always makes me smile.  He isn't as lean and cunning as the cat on the poster, but he is our  little Chat Noir!  C'est magnifique!

  1. Gorgeous chat noir, your toll house cookies look good too, years since I heard them called that! I always wondered what they were and now I know.

    1. I have to admit, it has been years since I made those cookies and now I have overdosed on them. They are one of the best inventions to come out of the States. We think LE CHAT is pretty cute... I'll pass the compliment on to him. Thanks for visiting us!

  2. Hello Deb,

Stumbled across your pics of your 'le chat noir' and it reminded me so much of our cat. My wife, Jacqui suggested sending you some pics of your cats long lost antipodean cousin Frankie. http://www.iridiumfs.com.au/frankie
    All the best.
