The Lost Beach Ball

It was a bright afternoon, so Andy and I decided to take a walk down to the beach. Lots of people were walking their dogs on the sand and playing fetch.  Some dogs were fetching sticks,  but this little dog had a tennis ball.

Unfortunately, his ball rolled down into a hole someone had dug in the sand. Children are always digging holes in the sand, that's why they call them 'Bucket and Spade' holidays.

The little dog could see his ball, but he couldn't get it out of the hole. He started to dig the sand, throwing up great clouds of the stuff.  But he still couldn't get the ball out of the hole.

His friend came over and tried to help.  He was digging, too. The more they tried to dig the ball out of the hole, the deeper the ball went.

His friend did his best to help, but finally he gave up and went back to his master.

But terriers are tenacious!  They NEVER give up!  The last we saw of this little dog he was STILL digging.  I am sure he got his ball out in the end or else he has dug his way to China by now.

  2. So sweet! Terrier are untiring, they have such a urge to hunt - no matter if deer, duck or ball!
I hope he stopped digging before he ended up in China! :-)

    1. I am not sure if he was helping or making a bid to steal the tennis ball. When it comes to beach toys, no holds are barred! : )

  4. Awwww. My husband calls those huge holes that people dig on the beach "murder pits" as he's convinced he'll fall down one and break something!

    1. Your husband has a good point. I have seen small children lost down those 'pits'! Ah nothing like a day out at the beach. : )
